Start packing up your old paperwork!
Willamette Valley MLS and your valley REALTOR® Associations - MVAR, PCAR, and WAOR - will host a shred event from 1 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – or until the truck is full – on September 29th. The event will take place at the Linn County Expo Center’s parking lot at 3700 Knox Butte Rd E, Albany. Each person can bring boxes full of paper. There is no size limit for the boxes, but they must be light enough for a volunteer to lift and handle. The event is open to WVMLS and association members only.
WVMLS recommends shredding real estate documents dated six years or older, bank and credit card statements, canceled checks, bills, tax returns, medical records, and any other personal and client records that include a social security number or other sensitive data. Identity fraud losses increase 15 percent as consumer out-of-pocket costs more than double, according to research firm Javelin.
“Shredding your dated real estate documents prevents sensitive information from getting into the wrong hands,” said Ronda Wymore, CEO of Willamette Valley MLS. “We want to wrap up Broker Safety Month by proactively helping our members avoid being a victim of identity theft.”
WVMLS has partnered with Shred-it for the event.
